Revenue on liquor sales increases by 266 crores in erstwhile Medak
Liquor sales in erstwhile Medak district increased in 2025-26, pushing revenue to Rs 3,566 crore. While liquor consumption grew, beer sales declined, with officials and observers linking the rise partly to election-related demand during the year.

Sangareddy: The liquor sales, including beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor, have considerably increased in the erstwhile Medak district during the last financial year compared to the previous year. The revenue from liquor sales increased from Rs 3,300 crore to Rs 3,566 crore, recording an increase of Rs 266 crore in the 2025-26 financial year compared to the previous year.
Interestingly, the beer sales have come down while the liquor sales recorded a considerable increase. During the just concluded fiscal, as many as 35,26,402 liquor cases have been sold out and 42,93,910 beer cases have been sold out. While the liquor sales have recorded 4.84 percent growth compared to the previous year, the beer sales have declined by 12.88 percent, while the revenue on total sales has increased by 8.06 percent.
While Medak and Sangareddy recorded 9.94 percent and 9 percent increase respectively in the revenue, the Siddipet district recorded a 5.75 percent increase. The beer sales declined from 49,28,517 cases in the 2024-25 financial year to 42,93,910 cases in the 2025-26 fiscal, while liquor sales increased from 33,63,653 cases to 35,26,402 cases during the same period. According to the financial year report released by the Excise and Prohibition Department, the overall revenue increased by Rs 266 crore. Many observers said the conduct of grama panchayat and civic body elections during the year have also boosted the sales, when the sales witnessed rapid growth.
