Film: ‘DJ Tillu’
Director: Vimal Krishna
Cast: Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Neha Shetty, Prince, Brahmaji
Siddhu Jonnalagadda has been an underdog right from his movie ‘Guntur Talkies’ for a long time. Then ‘Krishna And His Leela’ has a resounding success earning a name for himself on OTT. The tag of a play boy has placed him in a different space. It’s obvious that ‘DJ Tillu’ too has the same shade when it’s trailer was out. The film arrived in cinemas with expectations touching sky high.
Siddhu plays a funky disorderly youngster named Tillu who turns a DJ after dabbling with almost everything he liked in his life. A cool funny little punk now choses DJing, not professional though, serving the local clientele – Mahankalamma jatara, Bonalu festival, and not miss his popularity in the neighbourhood for his music during saree functions.
Tillu draws a line between his family and his profession. But he couldn’t save himself from embarrassment when his father catches him playing music in a saree function held in the neighbourhood. His wacky behaviour and antics often irritate his parents. This hopeless, fit-for-nothing lad falls for Radhika (Neha Shetty) at a club. The first meet leads to an unexpected fun in the car, and a lot more happens before they fall for each other in love.
The story takes a dramatic turn with the murder of Radhika’s boyfriend Rohit (played by Kireeti). This seemingly aggressive and straight forward guy Tillu gets trapped in the case. How Tillu comes out while proving innocence before court of law? With a lot of misadventures on the way, how ‘DJ Tillu’ maneuvers dodging several obstacles on his way while generating hillarious comedy throughout.
As the actor Siddhu has been saying, ‘DJ Tillu’ isn’t a different story, but a well-scripted plot and hillarious comedy is what makes the story different. It’s not that the film was driven solely by the characterisation of Tillu, every character adds up to. The film scores big in its screenplay and the well-articulated climax. Siddhu’s performance as Tillu is top notch. One can feel his body language and the dialogues that he delivers are quite organic. Second part takes its sweet time to re-start post intermission, DJ Tillu makes a big shout out to the underdog Siddhu who is in search of a break. Neha’s performance as Tillu’s girlfriend Radhika is good. Prince plays the role of Shannon Gonzales. Brahmaji and Pragathi both chip in well to add the required flavour in the process.
The title track DJ Tillu .. composed by Sricharan Pakala and Ram Miryala is certainly a major highlight. The background score that Thaman has rendered during the crucial scenes would make you tap your foot.
