RGIA sees rise in passenger footfall
From about 3,000 domestic passengers daily in the first few weeks after the recommencement of domestic operations in May, the passenger footfall has increased to over 30,000 on a daily basis in November
Hyderabad: In a sign of air operations getting back to normalcy at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad after Covid-19 lockdown restrictions were eased, the number of passengers in a single day in November has touched the 37,000 mark. This is the highest number of passengers since the recommencement of domestic operations.
From about 3,000 domestic passengers daily in the first few weeks after the recommencement of domestic operations in May, the passenger footfall has increased to over 30,000 on a daily basis in the month of November. In the process, the RGIA airport has handled over three million domestic passengers between May and November.
The RGIA has also seen uptick in the Air Traffic Movement (ATM) from about 40 daily ATMs in the first few weeks of the restart, to over six times growth. On a daily basis, in the month of November, the airport authorities have handled over 260 domestic flights. The airport has regained its 51 destinations out of 55 domestic destinations during pre-Covid days. With three new domestic destinations including Kozhikode, Imphal and Jagdalpur, the airport is now connected to 54 destinations in the domestic sector.
