Warangal: Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao paid his respects to poet Maharshi Valmiki on the occasion of the latter’s birth anniversary celebration held here on Wednesday. He garlanded the portrait of the saint-poet, who wrote the ‘Ramanaya Mahakavya’, also known as ‘Adikavya’ at a programme at Warangal Rural Collectorate complex in Hanamkonda.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the State government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was giving priority to great personalities of societies including the great poets, artists and other eminent personalities.
“Valmiki was s a great thinker who wrote Ramayana in Sanskrit in the genre of poetry. The hunter turned poet Valmiki roamed all over South India and spent some time on the banks of the river Godavari. It is also said that he had spent some time at the Valmikipuram (Valmidi) in Palakurti constituency,” he said, adding that Sita also took refuge in the Valmiki Ashram.
