Hyderabad: Mohd Rizwan led the boys category in the Boys Optimist class of the fifth YAI Secunderabad Sailing Club Tiscon Youth Open Regatta Championship at Hussain Sagar Lake here on Sunday.

The first day of the competitive races saw fierce winds and tough competition, with the weather conditions testing the skills and stamina of the young sailing talent from across the country.

The day featured action from four major classes: Optimist Main Fleet, ILCA 4, 420 Mixed, and 29er.

While the Optimist Green Fleet—with 36 young sailors—had their races postponed due to intense wind conditions, the remaining categories completed three races each as part of the planned 10-race schedule (subject to weather conditions).

In the Optimist Main Fleet, strong winds swept through the final race, causing 18 sailors to not finish. But resilience stood tall as Mohd Rizwan (NYSC) led among boys.

Shringari Roy, making waves for Secunderabad, topped the girls’ division and held steady across all three races.

In the ILCA 4 class, Ramakant (NYSC) showcased power and precision to lead the boys’ division. Tulsi Patle (NSS Club) dominated among girls with clear tactical superiority.

The 420 Mixed class saw smooth coordination help Thanuja Kameshwar and Sravan Katravath from TSA Club secure the top spot after the first day.

In the 29er class, blazing through the choppy waters, Ajay Gajji and Satyam Jha (NYSC) led this high-performance fleet.
