Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday came out with a crystal clear roadmap to step up substantially the scorching pace it has already set for the growth of IT and ITeS sector in the State in the next five years through its second Information Communication Technology (ICT) Policy.

“In the past year, Telangana saw a phenomenal 12.9 per cent growth in the IT and ITeS sector over the previous year with exports at Rs 1,45,522 crore that is more than double the estimated average national growth rate,” IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao said, releasing the policy at a function here.

The five-year ICT policy clearly establishes the goals, targets, expected employment generation, among other parameters, for all the allied sectors under IT and ITeS.

Telangana, the Minister said, intends to scale up IT exports from the State to over Rs three lakh crore in the next five years, that would simultaneously also see the employment touching the 10 lakh mark in the IT and ITeS sector. As part of the State government’s efforts to take IT and ITeS beyond Hyderabad, over 50,000 jobs will be generated in the sector in Tier II and Tier III cities in the State that would establish them as IT Hubs of the future, the Minister said.

Pointing out that the State had seen the highest annual growth rate in IT/ITeS exports in the last five years in the country and in the process, creating over 2.5 lakh jobs, Rama Rao said the State also saw the entry of several marquee investors during the period. The current direct employment in the sector in the State was 6.5 lakh, he said.

“The first ICT Policy introduced in 2016 helped Telangana propel itself from being a young state to one of the top achievers in IT and electronics adaption. The new ICT policy aims to empower and enable citizens of the State to take advantage of the growing digital world. It will work to make Telangana a first-choice destination for Startups and investors,” he said.
