Rowdy-sheeter arrested for allegedly extorting Rs. 50,000 in Shankarpally

Hyderabad: The Shankarpally police arrested a rowdy-sheeter, Mohammed Muneer Pasha Qureshi, for allegedly threatening people and collecting money from them.
According to the police, Qureshi had been projecting himself as a local elder and mediating disputes between couples in Mahalingapuram. About two years ago, while intervening in a marital dispute, he allegedly collected Rs. 50,000 from a couple on several occasions, claiming that he would help resolve the issue.
The police said Qureshi subsequently threatened the victims with dire consequences, including death, if they disclosed the matter to anyone.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victims at the Shankarpally police station, a case was registered and an investigation was taken up.
Qureshi had reportedly been evading the police for the past few days. Acting on information, a police team apprehended him in Shankarpally on Saturday. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
