Hyderabad: Under Operation NARCOS, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Secunderabad Division, has intensified its crackdown on narcotics smuggling through railways, seizing a variety of drugs worth Rs 5.79 crore, so far this year.

According to RPF officials, the special drive has resulted in the arrest of 107 persons in 88 separate incidents across the division. The contraband and arrested drug peddlers have been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other law enforcement agencies for further legal action.

Divisional Security Commissioner, Secunderabad, Alakunta Naveen Kumar, said the seizures reflect a major leap in enforcement activity compared to last year. “In 2024, we recorded 67 cases involving narcotics worth Rs 4.27 crore and arrested 82 persons. This year, there has been a 59 per cent increase in the value of seized drugs and a 62 per cent rise in arrests,” he said.

The RPF teams have strengthened surveillance on trains and at identified ‘black spots’ across the division, working closely with NCB and other agencies to detect and intercept carriers of narcotic substances. The RPF’s efforts were not only aimed at enforcement but also at awareness, said Naveen Kumar, adding, “Narcotics destroy the health and future of our youth and weaken the nation’s social and economic fabric.”
