RPF seizes 60.9 kg marijuana worth Rs 30 lakh in Secunderabad
Secunderabad RPF seized 60.9 kg of marijuana worth Rs 30 lakh during a special Operation Narcos inspection of the Konark Express. Seven unclaimed bags revealed 31 packets. The contraband was handed to the Excise Department, which is investigating.
Hyderabad: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Secunderabad Division seized 60.9 kgs of marijuana valued at around Rs 30 lakh during a special operation on Friday.
The seizure was made as part of ‘Operation Narcos,” an initiative aimed at curbing the smuggling of narcotics via trains. Following a tip-off, the officials searched the Konark Express between Secunderabad and Begumpet stations.
During inspection of a general coach, officials found seven unclaimed bags hidden under seats. Upon verification, no passenger came forward to claim ownership. A detailed search revealed 31 packets of marijuana concealed inside the bags. The contraband was later handed over to the Excise Department, which booked a case and is investigating.
Divisional Security Commissioner Alakunta Naveen Kumar noted that the division has significantly stepped up its efforts against drug trafficking, with multiple seizures and arrests reported in recent months.
Authorities have urged passengers to report any suspicious or unattended luggage to railway staff or via helpline number 139.
