Visakhapatnam: The district administration has so far recovered 431 acres of government land worth Rs 4291.4 crore, which was encroached by land sharks during the regime of previous government.

The State government, which found that large tracts of government land was illegally in the possession of Telugu Desam Party leaders, advised the district administration to focus on the issue. The latter launched a drive and on Sunday recovered 49.5 acres of land worth Rs 791.4 crore. The land was said to have been encroached by the family members and relatives of former MLA of Gajuwaka, Palla Srinivasa Rao. The personnel of Revenue Department used heavy machinery and removed the encroachments in Tunglam, Gollajaggarajupeta and Kurmannapalem areas.

According to YSR Congress Party leaders, most of the encroachers belonged to the TDP and so far, government land worth Rs 5,080 crore was recovered from their possession. With the land slipping from their hands and their unlawful activities exposed, the TDP leaders were going to the media blaming the State government, they stated.
