Rs. 52 cr sought for sports infrastructure in Telangana

Hyderabad: State Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud sought Rs 52 crore fund from the Centre for the proposed sports infrastructure in Mahabubnagar, Siddipet and various sporting facilities at various parts of the State. Speaking to Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur in a virtual meet, conducted with all State Sports Ministers by Thakur, Goud thanked the Centre for allotting 400m synthetic track in Medak, Karimnagar and Warangal.

However, he further revealed that the Telangana State had sent proposals for building sporting facilities at various places in the State and requested the Centre to grant the fund immediately. He also said that the State government was committed to promoting sports.

“The Telangana State, under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, has been encouraging sportspersons who excelled in international and national events. We are working hard to make the State a sports hub.

We introduced 2 per cent job reservation for athletes and 0.5 per cent admissions in education for sportspersons. We are also encouraging athletes by giving them cash incentives. We are going to come out with the best Sports Policy in the country soon. We also have three Sports Schools in the State and we need the Centre’s support to establish three more sports schools in the State,” said the Minister.
