Hyderabad: Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Saturday said the Central government has so far allocated Rs.93,656 crore for construction of highways in Telangana in the last few years. This is excluding the construction of roads taken up under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana scheme.

Explaining in detail about the developmental projects in Telangana at a press conference here, he said the four-lane national highway (NH-44) from Hyderabad to Benguluru will be developed into a super information highway. This highway will be developed into a six-lane with digital sign boards containing information about the distance of hospitals and petrol filling stations and traffic movement.

Motorists can travel 251 km in a hassle-free manner till they reach Karnataka border. “We are taking up the project at a cost of over Rs.4,750 core and efforts are on to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR),” Reddy explained.

The Central government has also decided to take up five high impact projects in Telangana from Solapur-Kurnool-Chennai, Hyderabad- Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad-Raipur economic corridor, Indore-Hyderabad and Nagpur-Vijayawada economic corridor.

An amount of Rs.1869 crore would be spent for Solapur-Kurnool-Chennai covering 77 kms in the State, while Rs. 4308 crore for Hyderabad-Visakhapatnam covering 164 kms in the State and Rs.3176 crore would be spent on Hyderabad-Raipur corridor covering 116 kms in the State.

An amount of Rs.4,244 crore would be spent on the Indore-Hyderabad project covering 136 kms in Telangana and Rs.2,790 crore on Nagpur-Vijayawada corridor covering 290 kms in the State, Reddy added.

To a question on the Centre’s failure in granting national status to the projects in Telangana, Reddy said he doesn’t want to speak about politics and he wants to inform people about the key infrastructure projects taken up by the Central government in Telangana.
