Hyderabad: The total deposits into the bank accounts of beneficiary farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme is inching close to the milestone achievement of a whopping Rs 50,000 crore since its launch. As on Monday, a total Rs 5,294 crore were deposited into the accounts of 57.6 lakh farmers in the eigtht season of the scheme.
Over the last seven phases, about Rs 43,036.63 crore were deposited into the bank accounts of farmers in the State under the one-of-its-kind scheme. The State government has already released Rs 7,645.66 crore to the Agriculture department for distribution among farmers for Yasangi crop. Once the department completes the process of distribution, the amount spent under the scheme will cross the Rs 50,000 crore mark. By January 10, all the 66.61 lakh farmers in the State would have received their investment support amount for the current season.
In a statement, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy said around Rs 1,047.41 crore have been deposited into the bank accounts of 4.89 lakh farmers on the fifth day of distribution. He said the scheme was a testament to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s commitment to the welfare of agriculture and farmers. “We are providing all the necessary support to farmers to prosper. I request all to participate in the week-long Rythu Bandhu celebrations to showcase the rare achievement and pro-farmers’ policies of the State to the world,” he added.
Following the progressive thinking and proactive measures of the Chief Minister, construction of new irrigation projects was taken up which in turn increased the total annual cultivation area in the State to more than two crore acres. The State government is spending nearly Rs 60,000 crore per annum on agriculture alone for implementation of Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, irrigation water supply and free power supply to farmers across the State.
