Hyderabad: The BRS has called for Statewide protests on Monday against the Congress government’s betrayal of Telangana’s farmers by reducing the Rythu Bharosa investment support from the promised Rs.15,000 per acre per annum to Rs 12,000. Demonstrations will be organised in all district, mandal and constituency headquarters in solidarity with the farming community.

Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan here on Sunday, party working president KT Rama Rao charged the Congress party with failing to deliver its election promise to provide Rs.15,000 per acre under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, and instead reducing the amount to only Rs.12,000. “Farmers will not tolerate such betrayal,” he said.

The BRS working president stated that the Congress once again proved to be synonymous with fraud, lies and hypocrisy, while Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was a traitor of farmers. He criticised Congress for its lack of clarity on providing assistance to horticulture and other crop farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, as well as depriving government employees and other tax payers from benefiting from the scheme.

“Rahul Gandhi had called this a guarantee, not a declaration. Where is he now when Telangana farmers are in distress? From Rahul Gandhi to Revanth Reddy, all they have done is make empty promises. But Telangana’s farmers have learnt their lesson and will not trust them again,” he said, adding that the Congress had turned Rythu Bharosa into a political tool, using it to secure votes during local body elections and to abandon it later.

Rama Rao demanded that both Rahul Gandhi and Revanth Reddy explain why the investment support was reduced, and apologise to the 70 lakh farmers for their failure to keep another promise. “Rahul Gandhi gave his word for implementation of the electoral promises, but he is not visiting Telangana to explain this betrayal,” he observed.

The former Minister also criticised Revanth Reddy for statements suggesting that Telangana, especially the condition of government employees, was better off in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, calling it an insult to the State’s achievements. “Under K Chandrashekhar Rao, Telangana provided the highest salaries to employees and completed transformative projects like Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and Mission Bhagiratha. Revanth Reddy’s baseless claims only indicate the Congress’s bankruptcy of ideas and leadership,” he said.

Drawing attention to the previous BRS government’s track record, Rama Rao said under Chandrashekhar Rao, over Rs 1 lakh crore was spent on initiatives like Rythu Bandhu and crop loan waivers. “While Chandrashekhar Rao will be remembered as a farmer’s true ally, Revanth Reddy has turned out to be their worst enemy,” he asserted.
