Sabitha Indra Reddy raises concerns over drop in government school enrolment

BRSLP deputy leader and former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy alleged that student enrolment in Telangana government schools has declined by over 3.57 lakh under the Congress government, blaming the fall on the government's failure to strengthen public education and claiming that parents have lost confidence in the system.

Hyderabad: BRSLP deputy leader and former Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy on Tuesday expressed concern over a sharp decline in student enrolment in government schools under the Congress government. She said enrolment fell from 30,09,212 students during the BRS government to 26,52,162 this year, a decline of over 3.57 lakh students.

In a statement, the BRS leader attributed the drop to the government’s failure to strengthen public education. She alleged that parents from poorer sections had lost faith in the system. She criticised the Congress government for weakening government schools in an attempt to reduce their number.

“This Congress government, which is playing with the lives of the poor, will suffer at the hands of the students and their parents,” she said.
