Mumbai: Mohammed Shariful Islam (30), who allegedly attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Mumbai earlier this year, has filed a bail application. He claims that the FIR against him is nothing but a “fictional story” and is not grounded in reality, as it lacks credible evidence. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 21. Islam, 30, is currently lodged in Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail.

The accused, in his bail plea filed through advocate Vipul Dushing, claimed that he is innocent and has no prior criminal record. The investigation into the incident is almost complete, with only the filing of the charge sheet remaining. His petition also stated that crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and call records, is already with the prosecution. The plea further asserted that there is no threat of tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses.

Islam said in a statement, “The present FIR is nothing but a fictitious story fabricated by the complainant. Hence, the accused is seeking bail.” The application also raised concerns over the legality of the arrest and a violation of Section 47 of the Indian Civil Defence Code (BNSS). According to this provision, the arrested person must be informed about the reasons for the arrest and their right to bail.

The case has been adjourned until July 21.

Earlier, in January this year, the actor was stabbed multiple times while attempting to fight off a burglar during the early hours of Thursday morning. Saif sustained six stab wounds, two of which are serious as they were closer to his spine. The incident occurred at 2:15 am when the burglar allegedly barged into their Bandra home, attacked their house help, and then Saif when he intervened. Saif had been woken up by the commotion in his son Jeh’s room. He entered the room to find the culprit arguing with their house help. Upon seeing this, Saif intervened, using his bare hands to fight off the intruder.
