Lingampally (Sangareddy): Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the Sangameshwara Lift Irrigation Project (SLIP) and Basaveshwara Lift Irrigation Project (BLIP) were the brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to ensure irrigation in these parts of the State.

“As Minister in the TDP government in the 1990s and leader of the second phase of Telangana movement, Chandrashekhar Rao had deep knowledge of Medak district which helped him come up with SLIP and BLIP. By pumping in 20 tmc ft of water from Mallanna Sagar to Singur project, the government will be able to provide irrigation water to over 3.80 lakh acres through SLIP and BLIP and usher in prosperity among the farmers in the district. SLIP alone is intended to provide irrigation water to 2.19 lakh acres covering 230 villages in 11 mandals,” the Minister said.

Saying that once Narayankhed, Zaheerabad and Andole areas were known for migration, poverty, and drought, Harish Rao said the irrigation projects will make Sangareddy a farming hub.

Addressing a gathering after laying foundation stone for carrying out a survey for SLIP at Lingampally village on Monday, the Minister said the government had sanctioned Rs 27 crore for the survey. Saying that they will pump the water to 665 meter height from sea level to irrigate the fields in Mogudampally acre in Zaheerabad Constituency, Rao said that Mogudmapally is located at the highest place in the State.

Suggesting the Chief Engineer (Irrigation) Ajay Kumar to complete the survey works within 70 days, the Minister has announced that they will get a foundation laid for the SLIP by inviting the Chief Minister soon after the DPR is prepared. He said that they wanted to complete the SLIP and BLIP on war-footing as the Chief Minister is willing to grant the funds immediately.
Andole MLA Chanti Kranthi Kiran, who presided over the meeting, has thanked the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for taking up such a project. He said that his Constituency farmers will be going to hugely benefit with SLIP.

Protem Chairman of State Legislative Council V Bhupal Reddy, MPs Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and BB Patil, Zilla Parishad Chairperson P Manjushri, MLAs Gudem Mahipal Reddy, K Manik Rao, Additional Collector J Veera Reddy, TRS leaders Chintha Prabhakar MD Fareeduddin, Shiva Kumar and others were present.
