Sangareddy: The TS Genco authorities generated over 3.9 million units of hydropower since June 1 at Singur Multipurpose Project which has an installed capacity of 15 MW. There are two 7.5 MW hydel power generation units on Singur constructed across river Manjeera at Singur village in Pulkal mandal. Of the 3.9,075 million units, 2.117 million units were generated in September alone.

Singur, a major irrigation project and lifeline of erstwhile Medak district, has been overflowing for the past nine days due to incessant rains upstream. Though the crest gates were closed down on Monday, water was being released from the power plant on Tuesday too.

Speaking to Telangana Today, TS Genco Assistant Divisional Engineer K Pandaiah said last year, the power generation was 9.65 million units with the project receiving continuous inflows throughout the monsoon. The highest power generation at the project was in 2010-11 when it generated an impressive 25.69 million units. The project received its heaviest flood in 2010-11 since it was constructed.

Meanwhile, Mazhar Mohammad, an irrigation official, said they had got 26.546 TMCft of cumulative inflows so far during the monsoon season. Since the project already had 19 TMCft left from last year when it received heavy floods, they had lifted the gates on September 6. Much before the gates were lifted, TSGenco had started power generation.

Stating that Manjeera had a history of receiving heavy inflows in September and October months, Mazhar Mohammad indicated that there was a chance to generate more power this year.
