Sangareddy: At a time when the use of bulls in agricultural activities has come down considerably due to mechanisation, there is still strong demand for them among farmers and cattle lovers. This was evident during the annual cattle fair organised on Sunday at Hazrat Peer Garib Saheb Kabli Dargah near Nyalkal mandal headquarters.
The dargah celebrates the week-long Urs-e-Shareef every year in February. The cattle fair held as part of the Urs festival attracts a wide variety of breeds of bulls, buffaloes and other cattle from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country. The bulls were colourfully decorated to attract buyers.
One such pair of bulls was sold for a record Rs.3.40 lakh this year. The owner, Samel, a resident of Gopulapuram in Munipally mandal, sold the pair at the fair to a farmer. Another farmer, Salman, a resident of Jangi in Raikode mandal, sold his pair of bulls for Rs.2.40 lakh. Farmers from across the country participated in the fair to buy cattle of their choice.
Well-known sculptor from Nyalkal, Hothi Basavaraj, who instituted awards in memory of his late parents Adavappa and Girijabai, presented awards to the best cattle rearers during the programme at the hands of Zaheerabad DSP Saida Nayak. Meanwhile, a large number of devotees thronged the dargah to offer prayers.
