Sangareddy bypass widened, but Nehru, Rajiv statues to choke junction again

The HMDA’s Rs 12 crore project to widen the Sangareddy bypass road has run into controversy after statues of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi were installed on the stretch. Meanwhile, political sparring has erupted with BRS leaders accusing TPCC’s Jagga Reddy of seeking favour with the party high command.

Sangareddy: The HMDA has planned to spend nearly Rs 12 crore on widening the Sangareddy bypass road from I&B guest house to NH-65 to tackle the traffic congestion. But even as the works have commenced with the demolition of a compound wall of the guest house, the installation of statues of Jawaharlal Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi in the middle of the proposed widened road, threaten to bring back the problem of congestion again.

People are critical of the statue installation as this would nullify the impact of the road widening and bring back the same old problem of high traffic congestion on the same stretch of road despite spending so much money. Though there is no official statement made on who is installing these statues, TPCC working President T Jagga Reddy, has been constantly monitoring the works.

Jagga Reddy has announced that he had invited Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to unveil these two statues during the latter’s visit to Sangareddy on Saturday. Since the 2.5 km long road connects NH-65 with Sangareddy road here covering several important places the installation of statues had become a topic of discussion among the citizens and road users.

The BRS leaders accused Jagga Reddy of trying to impress the high command and Chief Minister by installing the statues at a time to impress him and to get renomination of his wife T Nirmala as the TGIIC chairperson.
