The project, which will be taken up with an outlay of Rs 40 lakh, will be funded entirely by the Government of South Korea.

Former Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-H Prof KR Rajagopal, the Principal Investigator of the project and Prof N Siva Prasad, Pro Vice-Chancellor, GITAM-Hyderabad, have signed the documents and exchanged them in the presence of Surya Prakash Gajjalla, CEO, Archimedes Green Energy and DVVSR Varma, Resident Director GITAM-Hyderabad.

The objective of the project is to evaluate the performance of innovative small wind turbines and to study their efficiency at various locations in South India. The technical support such as the design and development of wind turbines will be done by the Korean firm ESCO-RTS and the manufacturing of the turbines will be carried out by Archimedes Green Energy. The researchers from GITAM will evaluate its performance.

It is proposed to install about 20 turbines at various locations in the Southern parts of the country. The Korean company has developed a small spiral blade that is different from regular wind turbines.
