Sangareddy: The government has suspended a government doctor who abstained from duty but sent a private doctor as his substitute to work at the Area Hospital in Jogipet.

Authorities said Dr K Ramesh, a Deputy Civil Surgeon, had sent Dr Ravi as his substitute to discharge his duties at the government hospital on Wednesday night. Dr K Ramesh (General Medicine) was scheduled to be on duty on the night of August 5 when he sent Dr Ravi as his substitute.

After learning about the incident, the Commissioner of Vaidya Vidhana Parishad, Dr Christina Z Chongthu, placed Dr Ramesh under suspension. The proceedings also stated that Dr Ramesh should not leave the Sangareddy district headquarters until further orders are issued. Meanwhile, the Commissioner also sent a team to inspect the hospital on Friday.

As the incident occurred in Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha’s constituency headquarters, the Minister took a serious view of the matter and directed officials to inquire into the incident. Meanwhile, there were serious allegations that another doctor working at the Jogipet hospital had also hired a substitute on multiple occasions. Officials were also probing these allegations.
