Sangareddy: A day after the dormitory of the Telangana Residential School at Lingampally in Munipally mandal collapsed, school staff faced criticism for making students carry their own beds and belongings to alternative rooms on Wednesday.
Large numbers of parents and relatives rushed to the campus after news of the collapse spread. They expressed outrage that their wards were forced to haul heavy loads while staff ignored pleas to hire labourers. Parents alleged that the staff remained indifferent even as children struggled under the weight of furniture and bedding.
Tensions escalated when a media crew attempted to film the incident. Some staff members allegedly picked a quarrel with the journalists and even tried to assault them, while encouraging students to drive the crew away. This happened in full view of District Education Officer Venkatehwarlu and other officials.
Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha had directed officials to provide immediate alternative accommodation for the students. However, instead of arranging external support, the staff shifted the children to other available rooms on the campus.
