Hyderabad: The Sangareddy district administration has issued show-cause notices to two officials of the Irrigation department for failing to take necessary steps to clear encroachments on the feeder channel linking Kothacheruvu and Bandacheruvu near Ameenpur Lake.
A similar notice will be issued to the officials from the municipal department in the district. “We have issued notices to the two officials of the Irrigation department seeking an explanation from them on their failure to clear encroachments,” Sangareddy District Collector M Hanumantha Rao said.
A three-member team headed by Rao also inspected Kothacheruvu and Bandacheruvu and took stock of the situation. The notices were issued following directions from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT gave directions in response to a petition filed by residents against real estate businessmen who blocked the feeder channel and obstructed the flow of water.
This resulted in inundation of residential colonies during monsoon. In spite of bringing the matter to the notice of the Irrigation department officials, no concrete measures were taken. The residents then approached the NGT. Rao said the administration has cleared the encroachments to ensure proper flow of water in the feeder channel.
