Sangareddy: Making his birthday special, a 23-year-old youth and his two friends donated blood on Saturday to help thalassaemia patients.
Akhil Goud Salapala donated blood for the first time in his life three months ago following the advice from his former mathematics teacher Paisa Satyam working at ZPHS IDA Bollaram School. Since then, Akhil encouraged 13 of his friends, including two on his birthday, to donate blood at various hospitals.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Akhil, who works as a supervisor at a pharma company now, said he got a call from his school teacher Satyam asking him to donate blood to a person. Until then, Akhil said he did not even know what his blood group was. Subsequently, the blood grouping revealed that he was A+ which matched the blood group of the person who was in an emergency at that time. He said he felt great after donating blood as a life-saving gift.
“I found that blood banks and hospitals are in serious need of blood as not many people are coming forward to donate blood during the pandemic. To do my bit, I have made 13 of my friends donate blood in the past three months,” Akhil said. To make his birthday celebrations special, he said he went to Thalassaemia Sickle Cell Society at Rajendra Nagar in Hyderabad with his friends – Hemanth Ganesh and Kamesh, to donate blood.
Akhil Goud vowed that he will continue to donate blood on his every birthday besides encouraging his friends and relatives to embrace the humanitarian call to donate blood which will make the difference between life and death. He also planted a sapling on his birthday. His school teacher Satyam appreciated his student for his resolve.
