Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Tension prevailed for a while when the kin of a sanitation worker staged a dharna demanding compensation by carrying his body in front of Kagaznagar municipality on Wednesday.

Sanitation worker, Lingampalli Nagesh (46), received serious injuries when he came under the wheels of a large crane used for immersion of Ganesh idols in Peddavagu rivulet near Kagaznagar on Tuesday night. He died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Karimnagar early on Wednesday morning. Nagesh is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Prem, another worker sustained minor injuries in the mishap.

Family members of Nagesh and his colleagues staged a sit-in in front of the municipality seeking justice and action against the driver of the crane. They regretted that the family of Nagesh lost their breadwinner. They wanted a compensation of Rs 50 lakh from the municipality.

They picked up an argument with officials of the civic body for showing negligence in taking precautions at the time of immersion, resulting in tension for a brief period.

Meanwhile, BRS leader Dr RS Praveen Kumar extended solidarity to the kin of the sanitation worker. He demanded justice for the family member of the victim.

The agitators withdrew their protest when Kagaznagar Sub-Collector Shradha Shukla and Additional Collector (Local Bodies) Deepak Tiwari held consultations with family members of Nagesh and assured them of justice by extending all support on behalf of the government.
