Hyderabad: Delhi Capitals, who started the tournament with a bang, now stares at a gloomy picture after suffering four straight losses. They need one more win to seal the play-offs berth in their final group match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday.
However, their top order has been performing inconsistently. Prithvi Shaw, the talented opener, had a good beginning to the tournament but his form deserted him as the tournament progressed. The likes of Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, who slammed back-to-back centuries, and Rishabh Pant failed to fire.
Shaw, in particular, scored just 219 in 11 games. He was dropped from the side for a couple of games and brought in Ajinkya Rahane, who too struggled to find form. Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar felt that the young Shaw was trying too many shots in his innings causing his downfall. Taking to twitter, he wrote, “Dear Prithvi Shaw, try & not attempt impossible shots, simply because they are impossible to pull off. Keep Virender Sehwag as your role model, see how he only stuck to shots he had the ability/confidence to pull off.”
