Hyderabad: BJP State president and MP Karimnagar Bandi Sanjay became the first politician from Telangana State to earn the tag of “manipulated media” for his retweet of the alleged toolkit prepared by the Congress to target the Narendra Modi government and expose its failures in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. The tweet is now considered as “deceptively altered or fabricated.”
Twitter gave the “manipulated media” tag to Sanjay’s tweet along with similar tweets by BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra and other BJP leaders who alleged that the Congress had prepared a toolkit to target the Modi government to tarnish his image. However, the Congress insisted that the toolkit documents flagged by the BJP are “fake” and has filed a police complaint against BJP leaders with an FIR registered in Chhattisgarh seeking investigation into the issue.
Along with Sambit Patra, Sanjay who holds the responsible position of BJP State president and also serves as Karimnagar MP, posted a series of tweets to attack the Congress over the alleged toolkit. In his tweet which earned the “manipulated media” tag, Sanjay said: “‘Use dramatic pictures of funerals’, ‘Call new strain ‘Indian Mutant’, ‘Asking Social media volunteers to call it Modi Strain’. Exposed ! Using a pandemic crisis to tarnish our Prime Minister and country for their own party to flourish is what Congress stands for.”
Twitter’s decision to flag the tweet gains relevance in the midst of a fight against fake news being spread by even those in responsible positions. In the image which Sanjay claimed was a page from the Congress toolkit, it was mentioned that the Congress workers should expose the failures of the Modi government during the pandemic.
