Hyderabad: Five more persons were admitted to the Primary Health Centre at Sanjeevraopet on Monday after complaining of diarrhea and vomiting following consumption of contaminated water. Two persons died and about 80 others had fallen ill by Sunday after consuming contaminated water from a well in the area in the village, which is Narayankhed of Sangareddy.
Many people were still complaining about diarrhea and stomach issues in the area. While a few have been discharged after treatment, others were being treated for different ailments. A few others have shifted to private hospitals while a few others got admitted to the area hospital in Narayankhed.
Additional Collector Chandrashekhar visited the health centre at Sanjeevaraopet and spoke to the patients on Monday. He also enquired about the treatment and availability of medicines and other facilities for extending treatment to the patients. The Additional Collector said an enquiry would be ordered into the incident and action would be initiated accordingly on officials responsible for the people being forced to consume contaminated water.
Meanwhile, two Assistant Engineers from Mission Bhagiratha were reportedly suspended for negligence in delivering their duties. As the pump motor of Mission Bhagiratha developed snags, the officials failed to get the motor repaired or replace it with an alternate motor for pumping water. They also failed to inform the higher authorities about the incident or to conduct tests before commencing supply of water from an alternate source, which resulted in several people falling ill, according to sources.
