Sanju Samson omitted from Zimbabwe T20I squad; Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma earn maiden India call-ups
Sanju Samson has been left out of India's squad for the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, while Yash Thakur, Ashok Sharma and Prabhsimran Singh earned maiden call-ups. Mayank Yadav returns, and Shivam Dube replaces injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in the ODI squad
New Delhi: World Cup-winning wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was on Monday omitted from India’s squad for the three-match T20I series in Zimbabwe later this month, while the selectors handed maiden call-ups to pacers Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma.
India will tour Zimbabwe for three T20Is on July 23, 25 and 27, with all the matches to be played in Harare.
Samson was replaced by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the second T20I against England in the ongoing five-match series.
The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter endured three successive failures — twice against Ireland and once in the opening T20I against England in Durham.
In Samson’s place, the selection panel, headed by Ajit Agarkar, included Punjab wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh, who also earned his maiden call-up to the national team.
Express pacer Mayank Yadav also returned to the squad for the first time since 2024.
For the three-match ODI series against England, the selectors replaced the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy with Shivam Dube.
