Hyderabad: Dhanurmasam augurs divine music and Sampradaya and Hope Advertising have come together to organise a week long cultural festival Sankeertanotsav, from December 27. The first day featured a vocal concert by vocalist Sriram Jonnalagadda, a disciple of illustrious musician Vid. Sri Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma.
Sriram began his concert with Mohana varnam in Aditalam, deftly mixing it up in various combinations of within 2nd and 3rd speeds of Chaturashra and Trisra. This was followed by Ninnu Joochidhanyudaiti, a composition of Patnam Subramanya Iyer in raga Sowrashtra.
After Kaanada, Sriram moved on to Gireesham Mahesham, a composition of Muthaiahbhagavathar set to Kchapu with slow paced swara patterns with complementing turns by violinist Dinakar. He then shifted to Purvikalyani for the majestic Ninuvina in villoma chapu composed by Shyama Shastry.
The main piece for the day was Enati Nomu Phalamo in Bhairavi followed up by a Shloka in Ragamalika i.e., Kedaragowla, Hamsanandi, Reethigowla and Hameer Kalyani before proceeding onto a composition by Saint Surdas, Balavinod in Hameer Kalyani. The final piece was a Thillana in Behag composed by Sri Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna. Dinakar’s violin, Phalgun’s Mridangam and Sri Phanibhushan’s ghatam added to the presentation.
