Hyderabad: A new cinematic take on the life of Sant Tukaram, the revered 17th-century Marathi saint and poet, is set to hit theatres worldwide on July 18, 2025. Titled Sant Tukaram, the film is produced by Curzon Films in association with Purushottam Studios and directed by Aditya Om.
Well-known Marathi actor Subodh Bhave plays the lead role, stepping into the shoes of the saint whose devotional poetry, known as Abhanga, became a voice for the common people during a time of social unrest. The film will explore Tukaram’s personal losses, spiritual journey, and the impact of his verses on society.
Shot with attention to historical detail, the project is positioned as a pan-Indian release. Along with Bhave, the film features a wide ensemble cast including Shiva Suryavanshi, Sheena Chohan, Sanjay Mishra, Arun Govil, Shishir Sharma, and Mukesh Bhatt, among others. Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna lends his voice as the narrator, providing context and philosophical depth.
The music, composed by Nikhil Kamath, Ravi Tripathi, and the duo Veeral & Laavan, blends classical and folk elements, drawing heavily from the Abhanga tradition. The soundtrack is intended to mirror the emotional and spiritual layers of Tukaram’s journey.
According to the makers, the film aims to offer a thoughtful portrayal of a historical figure whose legacy still resonates across communities and generations.
