A sarpanch candidate’s husband died by suicide in Somaripet village, Nirmal district. Locals alleged he faced pressure from Congress leaders to withdraw his wife’s nomination. BRS demanded a police investigation and said every citizen has the right to contest village polls.

Nirmal: The husband of a sarpanch candidate allegedly died by suicide, reportedly unable to withstand threats from Congress leaders at Somaripet village in Khanapur mandal on Thursday.
Bandari Ravinder, whose wife is contesting from Somaripet gram panchayat, ended his life by hanging in his cowshed. Ravinder had recently quit the Congress and joined the BRS. He was said to have refused to withdraw his wife’s nomination despite pressure from some Congress leaders, which locals allege led to the tragic incident.
BRS leader Bhukya Johnson Naik described the death as an unfortunate incident and demanded a thorough police probe to find the reasons behind Ravinder’s suicide. He said every citizen has the democratic right to contest village polls and expressed condolences to Ravinder’s family.
