Hyderabad: In Sarzameen, the calm valleys of Kashmir hide a storm no one can escape. The story follows Colonel Vijay Menon (Prithviraj Sukumaran), a man who has spent his entire life protecting the country. His wife Meher (Kajol) has stood by him through every sacrifice. Their world shatters when their son Harman (Ibrahim Ali Khan) chooses a dangerous path that stands against everything they believe in.
What starts as a difference of opinion slowly becomes a heartbreaking war inside their own home. The father is torn between duty and love. The mother struggles to hold the family together as the boy she raised turns into someone she cannot recognise. And the son, though angry and lost, still carries love for the parents he is now fighting.
The film is not about big fights or explosions, it is about the wounds that happen when family and nation collide. The writing makes you feel their fear, anger and helplessness in every scene.
The performances are the film’s soul.
Prithviraj Sukumaran as Colonel Vijay brings quiet strength, pain and dignity to every scene. Kajol as Meher is outstanding, with a character that starts soft but holds surprises that leave a mark. Ibrahim Ali Khan as Harman is impressive, showing both anger and confusion, making the son’s journey believable and heartbreaking.
Visually, Kashmir becomes a character in itself. The camerawork captures its beauty and its wounds. The music and background score are gentle but powerful, letting the emotions stay in front.
Director Kayoze Irani, with his very first film, has created a story that is sensitive and unforgettable. The way the film is made shows how much he trusts emotions, and that’s why Sarzameen stays with you long after it is over.
Final Verdict:
Sarzameen is a moving story of a family at war with itself. With heartfelt performances and an emotional core, it is one of the most memorable films of the year. Now streaming on JioHotstar.
