Satwiksairaj-Chirag reach badminton world championship semifinals, secure India a medal
India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, defeated Malaysia’s world No. 2 duo to enter the semifinals of the BWF World Championships in Paris. Their win guarantees India a medal, marking their second career World Championship medal.
Hyderabad: India’s top men’s doubles combination of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be in the battle for a final spot when they face 11th seeds Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi of China in the World badminton championship at the Adidas Arena in Paris on August 30.
The Indian pair defeated Malaysia’s World No. 2 duo, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, in the BWF World Championships quarterfinals, guaranteeing a medal and prolonging India’s streak of winning at least one medal at the tournament starting with the 2011 edition.
The Indian shuttlers delivered a commanding performance, outplaying their opponents in straight games 21-12, 21-19 in a 43-minute clash to storm into the semifinals. With this win, Satwik-Chirag have secured India a medal at this year’s edition as well. This also marks the duo’s second medal at the prestigious event, following their bronze at the 2022 edition in Tokyo.
