Hyderabad: Making light of the BJP State unit’s plans to capture SC constituencies in Telangana, Tribal, Women and Child Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod said the BJP should work towards retaining its deposits, leave alone winning elections from these constituencies.
“Tribal people are smart enough to analyse BJP’s crooked plans. They will never fall into the trap of BJP’s false assurances,” Satyavathi Rathod said, addressing media persons here on Thursday.
The BJP, she said, has always treated tribals as its vote bank and had failed to address their long-pending issues. “If BJP State president Bandi Sanjay and other leaders continue to speak lies, they will end up being obstructed by people as was done to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab,” the Minister said.
The State government passed a resolution in the Assembly to increase SC reservations and it was sent to the Centre but there has been no response so far, she said, adding that as per the AP Reorganisation Act, a tribal university was sanctioned for Telangana. The State government has allocated land for the tribal university but there was no development on this front.
Finding fault with the BJP leaders’ plans to stage protests on Podu lands issue, the Minister said the issue comes under Centre’s jurisdiction. The State government has constituted a Cabinet sub-committee and sought applications to address the issue, she said, adding: “Let BJP State leaders take up the issue with Centre and prove their commitment towards tribal welfare.”
Rythu Bandhu Chairman and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, who was also present, said the BJP State unit has unveiled a new drama of addressing tribal issues to secure their votes. “Laws are made in Parliament and State BJP leaders are speaking about the issue without basic awareness. The State government is committed to addressing the Podu lands issue and if it has to be resolved early, the BJP State leaders should exert pressure on the Central government,” he said.
