Hyderabad: The State government was taking necessary steps to protect disappearing tribal arts and communities, said Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod here on Monday.

The State government nominating koya tribe singer and doli artiste Sakinala Ramachandraiah, who plays doli during Sammakka Saralamma jatara at Medaram for Padma Shri award, reflected the State government’s commitment towards protecting tribal arts across the State, she said after felicitating Ramachandraiah.

Last year, Gond tribal Kanaka Raju was honoured with Padma Shri award for his contribution to preserve the tradition of Gusadi, an adivasi dance form and this year Ramachandraiah got the award. The Tribal Welfare Department is taking necessary steps for protecting the tribal art forms, she said.

The Minister said the State government would inaugurate the newly constructed girijana and adivasi bhavans soon and added that required funds would be allocated for the development of Sri Nagoba temple at Keslapur village in Indravelly mandal in Adilabad district and already Rs.5 crore were allocated. The Minister promised a 2BHK flat would be given to Ramachandraiah at his native place in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and necessary cooperation would be extended to his family from the Tribal Welfare Department.

Fifty-eight-year-old Ramachandraiah exuded confidence that his community would get recognition with the award.
