Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board meeting on Thursday was postponed following the walkout of Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh and Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender.
After the elected representatives walked out, President Cantonment Board Brig S Rajiv and SCB Chief Executive Officer D Madhukar Naik announced the meeting would be rescheduled, with a new date to be announced later.
According to Madhukar Naik, the MLA and MP were special invitees to the board meeting with a right to express their concerns on agenda items, but do not possess voting rights.
However, Etala Rajender, who raised issues regarding demolitions at JBS and other areas, reacted to the CEO’s remarks about the lack of voting rights and walked out of the board meeting room.
Sri Ganesh, who also walked out, said the CEO placed the agenda, which was not circulated to either MLA or MP, at the board meeting and passed resolutions without their consent.
Madhukar Naik said according to rules and regulations, the President Cantonment Board, the CEO and a civilian-nominated member appointed by the Defence Ministry constitute the Board, with MLAs and MPs serving only as special invitees.
The postponed meeting was to pass two key resolutions on the construction of two alternative roads at AOC, Secunderabad Cantonment and the construction of a four-line uni-directional Rasoolpura junction.
Meanwhile, around 100 property owners from Karkhana staged a protest at the SCB office to highlight the impact on their properties due to the widening of the road from 100 feet to 200 feet for the proposed elevated corridor between Gymkhana Ground and Shamirpet.
