Hyderabad: A fund-starved Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB), which was short-listed as one of the deficit Cantonment Boards in the country, received Rs 14.54 crore as grant-in-aid from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) recently.
The central government sanctioned a total of Rs 221.84 crore as ‘grant-in-aid’ to all 48 deficit Cantonment Boards, and the Secunderabad Cantonment Board is one among them. In an order issued by the Deputy Director General (Cantts), Director General Defence Estates, Amit Kumar stated that this grant-in-aid should be utilised only for sanctioned purposes and should not be diverted.
A senior SCB official said, “This grant-in-aid has given a boost to the SCB, which is facing a financial crisis, and the funds will be spent on works short-listed by the Chief Executive Officer on a need basis.”
