Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar on Tuesday said the SCCL achieved a record 68 per cent growth in coal transport and 60 per cent growth in production in the last seven months in this financial year compared to last year. The increase in coal production and transport ensured that there was no shortage of coal supply to States which have supply agreements with Singareni. Coal was supplied to thermal power stations in other States as well, he said.

In the same period in last financial year, only 218 lakh tonnes of coal was transported and this year, in the first seven months, 367 lakh tonnes of coal was transported registering a growth of 68 per cent, Sridhar said. He conducted a video conference from Singareni Bhavan with the company directors and general managers of all the Singareni areas and reviewed the situation. Last year, in the first seven months, 220 lakh tonnes of coal was produced while this year, in the first seven months, 352 lakh tonnes of coal was produced registering a growth of 60 per cent.

As many as 156 million cubic meters of OB was removed last year whereas in the same period this year, in the first seven months, 201 million cubic meters of OB was removed with a growth of 28 per cent. Sridhar said that in the balance five months of this financial year, 2.05 lakh tonnes of coal per day has to be transported to ensure proper supply to all companies without any shortage. A target has been set to achieve over 330 lakh tonnes of coal production in the next five months. Sridhar asked the employees that the set targets must be achieved to meet the power needs of the State and country.
