Hyderabad: The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has embarked on a mission to ensure housing for every employee and has already taken up construction of 1,478 quarters at a cost of Rs 333 crore in the first phase.
In a press release here on Monday, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) N Sridhar said they had taken up construction of the new quarters as per the assurance given by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to the employees earlier. “Every quarter with two bedrooms, hall and Kitchen (2BHK) will be constructed and greenery will be developed in all the residential colonies. As part of this, 1,478 quarters at a cost of Rs 333 crores will be constructed in the first phase,” he said.
The Singareni CMD said 352 houses of the proposed quarters, would be completed by June, while construction of the remaining quarters and allotment will be completed by the end of this year. “Earlier, workers’ quarters were built with one bedroom, one small hall, and a small kitchen. They were congested. Now in line with the State Government policies, the SCCL is also providing 2BHK house with an area of 963 sq ft. We are also constructing wide internal roads, drainages and plantation on either side of the roads with dividers. Apart from these, parks and play area for children are also being developed, and the quarters will remain as the state-of-the-art in construction,” he added.
While 994 quarters are coming up at Bhupalapally, 352 quarters will be ready by June at Sattuaplli of the Khammam district. The SCCL had opened huge opencast mines at Sattupalli and coal production is going on. Almost 20,000 tonnes of coal is being produced and hence, a new railway line is taken up by the company from Kothagudem. Due to the heavy production from these mines, the company has taken up construction of these quarters for the convenience of the workers.
Apart from this, the construction of 132 quarters at a cost of Rs 37 crores at Singareni Thermal power area is also at the finishing stage. General Manager (Civil) Ch Ramesh Babu said that nearly 49,000 livable quarters were available in various areas of SCCL. “The newly constructed quarters are large and convenient, beautiful parks and shopping complexes are also being constructed. We are trying to develop them into a model colony,” he added.
