Hyderabad: Overcoming the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved a huge milestone this financial year with the zone crossing the originating loading of 100 million tonnes in the freight segment and carrying 100 million passengers, as of February 11. The SCR’s efforts to balance both freight and passenger segments has led to a growth rebound in both segments in the current financial year, a press release said.

The freight basket of the zone has been diversified with an increase in loading of all types of commodities, including coal, cement, raw material for steel plants, food grains, and fertilizers.

Many initiatives taken by the SCR such as resuming all express trains and introducing passenger trains to meet the demands of the unreserved segment, has resulted in the zone crossing transportation of 100 million passengers. While 60 per cent of the passenger traffic was contributed from the reserved segment, the rest 40 per cent was contributed by the unreserved segment.

SCR General Manager, Sanjeev Kishore, instructed all the officials and staff to maintain the same momentum to cross the targets prescribed for the zone in the current financial year.
