Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR), responding to a news item on an ex-army officer, AK Jairath, being asked to pay Rs 500 for parking his car at the railway station for 31 minutes, said the retired Brigadier had parked in the circulating area, where anyone parking beyond 30 minutes would have to pay Rs 500.
The retired Brigadier was charged the overstay fee, the SCR said, and not the parking fee, which would be Rs 50 for the first two hours for a car, and Rs 15 for scooter/motorcycle for the first two hours. The charges for overstay in the circulating area were to ensure that there was no congestion in the busy area and only on vehicles staying beyond the allowed time.
Any vehicle can stand in front of the main station gate up to eight minutes for free. Thereafter, up to 15 minutes, the vehicle is charged an overstay fee of Rs 100; the overstay charge for vehicles waiting from 16 minutes to 30 minutes is Rs 200. Vehicles waiting in the circulating area for more than 30 minutes are levied a charge of Rs 500, SCR said.
