SCR completes doubling of Umdanagar-Shadnagar line
With this, the stretch between Secunderabad and Gollapalli for a distance of 88 km will have a double line facility
Hyderabad: As part of the Doubling and Electrification Project undertaken by the South Central Railway (SCR), the doubling of a section between Umdanagar-Shadnagar for a distance of 29.7 km was completed and commissioned on August 2. This will enhance the rail connectivity between Hyderabad and major cities such as Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, Anantapur, Bengaluru, Kadapa, Tirupati, etc., towards the south. The project is being executed by the Railway PSU, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL).
The Secunderabad – Mahabubnagar Doubling and Electrification project is one of the critical projects for strengthening the rail operations in Telangana. The project was sanctioned for a distance of 85 km in 2015-16 at an estimated cost of Rs 774 crores. The section between Secunderabad and Umdanagar for a distance of 28 km is excluded in the above project and is undertaken as part of MMTS Phase I and II which has already been completed. The work in Umdanagar – Mahabubnagar section is progressing at a fast pace — out of which the section between Shadnagar and Gollapalli for a distance of 29 km is completed.
Now, the stretch between Secunderabad and Gollapalli for a distance of 88 km will have a double line facility. Also, the work on the portion between Gollapalli and Mahabubnagar for a distance of 25 km is near completion.
All the five stations between Umdanagar and Shadnagar — Umdanagar, Timmapur, Kottur Halt, HBL Nagar Halt and Shadnagar — have also been developed and provided with essential passenger amenities. New station buildings have been constructed at all these five stations, and state-of-the-art signalling facilities with advanced interlocking systems has been installed at Umdanagar, Timmapur and Shadnagar.
Gajanan Mallya, GM, SCR congratulated the officers and staff of Hyderabad division and RVNL on the successful completion of doubling of crucial portions between Umdanagar and Shadnagar. He shared that the traffic congestion in the existing single line section between Secunderabad and Dhone will ease and it will pave the way for more transition of both freight and passenger trains from Secunderabad up to Gollapalli.
