Hyderabad: To provide seamless connectivity and enhanced travel experience, South Central Railway (SCR) has commissioned 134 track km of electrification in the last two days comprising important sections of the zone, taking the total electrification completed in the current financial year to 274 route km.

The two sections were Lingmapet Jagityal – Morthad for a distance of 56.5 km in Secunderabad division and Dharmavaram – Kadiri for a distance of 77.89 km in Guntakal Division.

The section between Lingampet Jagityal – Morthad is part of Peddapalli – Nizamabad new railway line and the section between Peddapalli – Lingampet Jagityal for a distance of 83 km has already been completed. For electrification of the remaining portion between Lingmapet Jagityal – Nizamabad work has been sanctioned in the year 2017-18. Out of this, 56.6 km has now been completed and commissioned. The works in the remaining portion are also progressing fast, SCR said.

The electrification of these railway lines will significantly strengthen rail infrastructure in the state of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and provide seamless movement of freight and passenger traffic on rails, besides reducing the enroute detentions.

Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR said that electrification of railway lines in these sections immensely benefits the Railways by reducing fuel expenditure, while also promoting energy saving. Electrification of Railway lines is also environment friendly, as it reduces the emission of carbon foot prints, he said.
