Hyderabad: With passenger traffic expected to rise sharply during Dasara, Diwali and Chhath festivals between September 19 and October 28, the South Central Railway (SCR) has drawn up a joint action plan with multiple agencies to ensure passenger safety and smooth travel.

Accordingly, a coordination meeting was held by the SCR authorities, with RPF, GRP, Local police, Traffic Police and TGSRTC on Wednesday. Key concerns reviewed included the passengers rush at Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Charlapalli, Lingampalli and Kacheguda railway stations and curbing snatching, pickpocketing and and unauthorised entries into restricted areas.

In view of increased footfall and possibility of congestion at hotspots at Foot over bridges, waiting halls and circulating zones, measures are being taken to prevent stampede-like situations. According to the authorities, the RPF and GRP will strengthen patrolling, frisking and anti-sabotage checks and strict vigil at restricted zones and vulnerable points.

On the other hand, the local police will assist the railway police in crowd dispersal during peak hours and the traffic police in vehicle regulation and strict no-parking enforcement.

Further, these teams will also monitor the lanes for autos, cabs, buses and other choke points.

Meanwhile, the TGSRTC will run additional bus services during rush and late nights. Staff will be deployed at bus bays to guide passengers and diversion of buses to less congested station sides.
