Jagtial: Scrap worth about Rs 1 crore is said to have been gutted in a fire that engulfed a scrap shop in Dharur village of Jagtial urban mandal on Saturday.
According to local residents, the final rites of an elderly woman were being performed at a nearby graveyard when the fire is suspected to have originated from the funeral pyre and spread to adjacent areas, including the scrap shop. Panic gripped the area as a fuel bunk and several houses were located nearby. Thick smoke enveloped Dharur and its surrounding villages, adding to the tension.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the scene upon being alerted and brought the flames under control. Shopowners estimated that scrap worth around Rs 1 crore was destroyed in the incident.
