Hyderabad: In the recently concluded National women’s cricket championship held in Bengaluru, South Central Railway batter Sabbhineni Meghna emerged as the top run-getter of the tournament in Indian Railways title triumph. Opener Meghana amassed 388 runs from six matches. She had scores of 142 (vs Chandigarh), 90 (vs Odisha) and 86 (vs Mumbai).
“It is always nice to score runs in an important tournament like the National championship. I’m happy that I could contribute to my team’s win,’’ said the 25-year-old opener.
Meghana is hoping to break into the Indian team which is top heavy with players like Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues among others. “The top half is heavy and therefore I have to be among runs,’’ said Meghana, who is posted in Hyderabad Division office of SCR office.
The Vijayawada-born girl initially took to swimming and badminton before taking to cricket. “My father was also interested in cricket and began to focus on this game. I have got runs in most of the big tournaments,’’ she added.
Meghana has played in six T20 internationals after making her debut for India in 2016. She had a poor return of 54 runs. “But this time I’m better prepared. I hope to do well in the Challengers series which will be held shortly,’’ she signed off.
