Search underway for 4 missing after Hyderabad floods; one dead in wall collapse
Four people remain missing in Hyderabad after severe flooding from Sunday night’s heavy rains. Rescue teams are searching swollen canals while a migrant worker died in a wall collapse at Pet Basheerabad. The city struggles with widespread waterlogging and disruptions
Hyderabad: The grim aftermath of the heavy downpour in the city on Sunday night continued to haunt even on Monday, with rescue teams still searching for at least four people who were reportedly washed away in swollen nalas and floodwater streams at various locations.
At Vinobha Nagar in Musheerabad, Dinesh alias Sunny (25), was swept away, reportedly when trying to cross a nala on his scooter. His two-wheeler was later recovered near a manhole at Parsigutta, but there has been no sign of Dinesh.
Officials from the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and GHMC emergency teams are combing nearby canals and drain channels in a desperate search.
On the other hand, at Mangar Basthi in Afzal Sagar area in Nampally, two men, identified as Arjun and Ramu, were carried away in the flood surge when they reportedly attempted to wade through rising waters. Despite overnight efforts, their fate remains uncertain, and search parties continued operations on Monday.
Meanwhile, there are also reports that another unidentified person was swept away in the Rachakonda police limits during the heavy rains.
The downpour, which began late on Sunday, brought the city to a standstill. Streets turned into streams, drains overflowed, and several low-lying colonies were submerged. Traffic came to a grinding halt in many areas, while residents of Musheerabad, Chaderghat, Afzalgunj, and Secunderabad reported water entering houses.
In the early hours of Monday, a migrant worker died and a few others were injured in a wall collapse at Pet Basheerabad.
