Seasonal waterfalls spring back to life in erstwhile Adilabad
Heavy rainfall has revived several seasonal waterfalls across the erstwhile Adilabad district, attracting tourists and nature lovers. While the scenic locations have become popular again, visitors and locals have urged authorities to improve safety measures and provide basic infrastructure to prevent accidents.
Adilabad: Seasonal waterfalls have been rejuvenated following incessant rains that lashed several parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district from Monday night to Tuesday, cheering nature lovers.
While the average rainfall in Mancherial district was recorded at 58.4 mm, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district received an average rainfall of 32.6 mm. Adilabad and Nirmal districts recorded average rainfall of 9.3 mm and 6.8 mm respectively. Hilly streams swelled due to the rains, bringing respite to farmers who were anxious following a prolonged dry spell.
The rains breathed life into several seasonal yet pristine waterfalls such as Gayathri and Koratikal in Neradigonda mandal, Kanakai in Bazarhathnoor of Adilabad district, Mitte or Sapthagundala in Lingapur mandal, Babejhari in Kerameri, Gundala and Chintalamadara in Tiryani mandal, Samutulagundam in Asifabad mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, and Ksheera in Mandamarri mandal and Gatrapalli in Hajipur mandal of Mancherial district.
The waterfalls that have rumbled back to life are now attracting nature lovers, vloggers and youngsters not only from the four districts but also from neighbouring Maharashtra and Karimnagar district. They are being swarmed by visitors arriving at these scenic spots in jeeps, motorbikes, cars, tractors with trolleys and auto-rickshaws.
However, some of these waterfalls witness incidents of visitors drowning, particularly youngsters, every year due to the lack of security measures and caution boards. Unaware of the danger, many youngsters venture into the pools at the waterfalls for a swim. They often lose their lives as they are unaware of the depth of the water, while the surroundings also become slippery.
Officials and local police often draw criticism for failing to check boozing and partying at these spots, resulting in drowning deaths of careless visitors. Nature lovers requested the authorities to erect caution boards to prevent such tragic incidents. They opined that deploying police personnel and local volunteers could help prevent drowning at these natural attractions.
Similarly, the authorities have been urged to create basic amenities such as toilets, road connectivity and drinking water facilities at these natural attractions. Visitors are facing inconvenience while exploring the waterfalls. For instance, they are forced to trek long distances to reach picturesque places that are not connected by roads.
